At 1625, we are passionately dedicated to fostering the growth and development of our colleagues, empowering them to excel in their careers. Explore Hannah Green’s (Building Futures Team Leader) journey in our latest instalment of ‘Career Progression Stories.’
“When I first applied for a maternity cover position at 1625, I saw it as a chance to move to Bristol and get some more experience in supported housing. I never imagined I would still be working here 14 years later!
I was able to move into a permanent position as a Housing Officer, gaining really useful skills and knowledge. I was also given the chance to specialise in welfare benefits and supporting young people in employment. There was a great supportive coaching environment and I was keen to take on new opportunities – like mentoring new starters in the team and line managing our Resident Adults.
After my first maternity leave, I wanted a change of pace – luckily a part-time role came up working on our money advice project. This was great for a while but I wanted a new challenge – and applied for a new role, leading a new project. It was really hard work but 1625 gave me lots of support. The Project expanded, taking on an extra member of staff and I again had the opportunity to line manage someone. There were a lot of challenges and sometimes I felt overwhelmed – but my amazing line manager gave me great coaching which really built my confidence – she believed in me and encouraged me nonstop.
Last year I had the opportunity to complete a Team Leader apprenticeship – at times I wanted to give up as it was difficult fitting it around my work – but my manager kept supporting me all the way through it. In particular, she really helped me to see my own strengths instead of focusing on my perceived weaknesses. I completed the course with a distinction. Recently I have become a team leader, line managing 5 workers. I have had such great opportunities at 1625 and have been able to achieve so much because of the supportive management culture. In particular, the organisation has supported me while adjusting to a mental health diagnosis and the challenges of caring responsibilities at home. I can’t recommend working at 1625 enough!’
