Through Young People’s Eyes: The Kingsley Hall Documentary
As part of our Kingsley Hall Heritage Project, young people are leading the creation of a brand-new documentary film that will premiere in early 2026.
This exciting project, made possible with funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, is giving young people the chance to explore the history of Kingsley Hall and share its stories in their own words and through their own creativity.

A Film Directed by Young People
Since summer 2025, young people have been taking part in film workshops at Kingsley Hall. Working alongside filmmakers, sound designers, and our Heritage Activity Team, they are learning everything from camera and editing skills to scriptwriting, music production, and creative storytelling.
Participants aren’t just learning technical skills, they are leading the narrative. Together, they are deciding which themes matter most, from the building’s history and its role in the community, to their personal reflections on heritage and change.

Building Skills and Confidence
For many of the young people involved, this is their first experience of filmmaking. The workshops are designed to give them hands-on opportunities to:
- Learn new technical and creative skills
- Build confidence in leading projects
- Collaborate with peers and professionals
- Express their own voices and perspectives
Trips to exhibitions and film screenings are adding inspiration, while creative sessions in storyboarding, collaborative brainstorming and practical camera workshops are helping the group shape the unique atmosphere of the film.
“I really enjoyed today’s session – it was great to see how we started off with a blank sheet and very quickly developed some questions.” -Young Person working on the Heritage Documentary

A Story for the Future
The documentary will be a powerful way of sharing the story of Kingsley Hall through the voices of the young people shaping its future. Once complete, it will be screened as part of the celebrations around the re-launch of Kingsley Hall, contributing to the building’s new chapter as a vibrant community hub. Beyond the launch, the film will also stand as a lasting record of the building’s history, told with creativity and imagination by the next generation.
