Restoring and reimagining Kingsley Hall

Redeveloping Kingsley Hall is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The building, in its current state, is deteriorating and no longer fit for purpose. Short-term repairs have become impractical, with large parts of the building unusable. Through this project we are preserving and revitalising a trusted, familiar base for support in central Bristol, delivering the opportunities and facilities that young homeless people need.

Our young people, 1625 colleagues and partners have played a vital role in the participatory design process led by Childs Sulzmann Architects, an award-winning Bristol-based practice.

The vision

The transformation of Kingsley Hall will provide urgently needed spaces, housing, and opportunities needed by young homeless people and others facing significant disadvantages. The project will lay the foundations of stability, belonging, opportunity and safety by creating:

• Welcoming, safe spaces where young people can overcome isolation, improve their mental wellbeing and create connections

• New training spaces where young people can re-engage in education, gain qualifications and access employment opportunities in a safe, welcoming environment

• A new social enterprise café and training kitchen for Old Market, providing delicious food and drink alongside vital work experience and skills development for young people

• New affordable homes for young people who are ready to live independently

• Great new spaces for hire

When?

We’re planning to start the building works in the summer of 2025, with the renovated building planned to open in summer 2027.

By creating these spaces, we will empower young people to build on their strengths, develop confidence, and cultivate the skills and relationships needed for independence. The project will support them to re-engage and transition into education, training, and employment, paving the way for a brighter future.

Join us in making a lasting impact on our community and supporting those who need it most!
