“I joined 1625 Independent People in March 2022 working as the housing and allocations administrator for the dispersed housing team. It was a very different but positive change from working within the corporate sector. The team had been without any admin for some time, so after a number of months getting everything organised and ready to hand over I decided to make the leap and move into a more young people facing role.
I am now a housing assistant for dispersed housing, this role involves me visiting a number of shared properties, which goes hand in hand with meeting young people, building relationships with them and helping them navigate some of the complications that can arise sharing a house. I enjoy being able to check in with young people in their own space, as it’s usually very relaxed and we end up having great conversations. Whilst it’s not a direct support role, the young people in my houses are used to seeing me regularly and will often ask for help with things, and will often open up about their frustrations around the housing shortage within Bristol.
1625 Independent People is a great place to work, I have an incredible team, but the people in the wider organisation are also a massive support network. I also have an amazing manager that is always there if I need her. It’s like being in part of a huge family.
