VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT – Janghir Arif

30th May 2025

We’re celebrating volunteer Janghir’s one year anniversary with 1625!  Read all about his journey in our latest Volunteer Spotlight Blog.

What drew you to become a volunteer?

I applied to volunteer with 1625 because I wanted to give back –  to be useful to an organisation and to offer my skills and time. It is also an opportunity for me to brush up my own skills, and opportunity to learn something new. I’ve volunteered elsewhere before and I wanted to do it again because helping a cause appeals to me. It feels good to do something to meet and talk to people I might not otherwise meet.

How does 1625 support you as a volunteer?

I’m surprised to hear I‘ve volunteered with 1625 for one year – it hasn’t felt like it. I get a good vibe being at 1625, everyone has been welcoming. I enjoy volunteering my time alongside Sean (Head Office Reception & Administrator), he is very chill and also offers good advice.

What difference and impact does volunteering have for you?

Opportunities to meet people and encouraging me to get out and learn something new. Since volunteering, I have learnt how to do Portable Appliance Testing and to do regular Health & Safety checks around office buildings. Hopefully I have contributed and have been helpful.

If you could sum up volunteering for 1625 in a sentence, what would it be?

1625 has a been a good place to volunteer – it has good energy and people, and it gives me a good feeling.

What does it really mean to partner with a charity?  For the organisations we work with at 1625 Independent People, it goes far beyond fundraising. It’s about shared purpose, real human connection, and creating lasting change for young people facing homelessness.  Through our Stronger Together campaign, we spoke to five of our incredible corporate partners to understand what these partnerships look like in practice, and why they […]

For Neurodiversity Celebration Week, we asked young people connected to 1625 Independent People to share what being neurodivergent means to them.  Neurodiversity recognises that people experience and interact with the world in different ways. For many young people, it can shape how they learn, communicate, manage everyday tasks, and understand themselves.  Through their reflections, young people […]
