Supporting young people into education and employment

15th April 2021

ABRI and Inspired to achieve have generously funded a new role at 1625 Independent People, a Team leader for education, employment, and training services. We spoke to Ellis Rodrigues, who has recently been appointed to the role, about the charity and what she thought about the exciting new opportunity.

“At 1625 Independent People we provide housing and support to young people who are at risk of homelessness. As well as supporting young people who are at risk, we help young people overcome the barriers they face in accessing and sustaining education, employment and training.

Within my new role I will be working with a small team of dedicated Coaches and Engagement Workers to support young people into Education, Employment and Training. I will also be developing relationships with local employers who would like to support our young people by providing them with; work experience, training, and even employment offers like Apprenticeships! I am really excited to be working with ABRI and Inspired to Achieve who also have experience of supporting their clients to reach their goals of independence and long-term employment. I think it will be a great partnership for us all.”

Dom Wood, Chief executive of 1625 Independent People said “We’re delighted to have support from ABRI and Inspired to Achieve to fund this important role. We support young people to develop goals and have a clear plan. Through our education, employment & training support, young people can develop core employability skills including confidence, well-being, timekeeping, teamwork, communication, self-belief, and motivation. Ellis’ role as Team leader will work on developing all of these areas and insuring young people are in sustainable education and employment, which is a key element to achieving independence.”

“Not everyone is born with the same opportunity. But we believe it doesn’t matter where you’re from, it’s about where you’re going,” says Michelle Dawson, Director of Housing and Community Investment at Abri.

“We’re proud to fund this role, helping young people access the skills, training and support they need to achieve sustainable employment and independence. It supports everything we’re aiming to do as part of our £15m five-year Community Strategy investment – improve employment, health and wellbeing and empowering communities.”

If you would be interested in supporting a young person into employment, we would love to hear from you.
