Transforming Temporary Accommodation for Young People in Bristol

1625 Independent People and Caring in Bristol are one of three partnerships nationally that have received funding from the Justlife Foundation as part of its Transforming Temporary Accommodation Programme.

This two-year pilot, from January 2026, supports 18–25-year-olds living unsupported in temporary accommodation in Bristol. Together, we will improve the quality and outcomes of temporary accommodation for young people, making their experiences shorter, safer, and healthier.

About the Service

A Navigator role, based within our MAPS service, will provide community-based support to stabilise young people’s situations, reduce harm, and create more successful move-on outcomes.

  • Referrals come from MAPS and Bristol City Council’s Temple Street Housing Office, triggered when a young person is offered temporary accommodation under the Housing Act Part 7 homelessness duty.
  • Young people needing longer-term assistance will be given priority access to Caring in Bristol’s Project Z service (ensuring continuity of support while they remain in temporary accommodation).
  • A small support fund is available to help meet immediate essential costs to sustain a young person’s health or accommodation placement, such as travel, essential clothing, food, or basic household items.

Young People’s Voice at the Centre

Lived experience and young people’s voices will be central to the design and delivery of this project. A dedicated Youth Voice Panel will help steer delivery, shape evaluation, and ensure the project reflects the real experiences and priorities of young people.

What does it really mean to partner with a charity?  For the organisations we work with at 1625 Independent People, it goes far beyond fundraising. It’s about shared purpose, real human connection, and creating lasting change for young people facing homelessness.  Through our Stronger Together campaign, we spoke to five of our incredible corporate partners to understand what these partnerships look like in practice, and why they […]

For Neurodiversity Celebration Week, we asked young people connected to 1625 Independent People to share what being neurodivergent means to them.  Neurodiversity recognises that people experience and interact with the world in different ways. For many young people, it can shape how they learn, communicate, manage everyday tasks, and understand themselves.  Through their reflections, young people […]
