Zine Recipe Heritage Workshop

13th December 2023

Artist Hannah Aspinall recently led a Recipe Zine-making workshop for our Heritage Youth Board.

For those unfamiliar, a zine is a small-circulation self-published work that typically features original or appropriated texts and images, often reproduced via a copy machine.

During the workshop, each young person selected a recipe close to their heart and spent time designing how it was going to be presented on the page using different materials and techniques (collaging, cutting and sticking) to present the recipes in a fun and artistic way.

The session saw the culmination of their efforts, with the completion of the zine’s design and the assembly of all individual creations into a collective zine.

In the words of one of our Heritage Youth Board members, “The heritage project has opened me up to new experiences I would never thought I would get from cooking, and zine making to photography. I love to see where the project will go in the future.” Heritage Youth Board Member

You can see the finished zine below.

What does it really mean to partner with a charity?  For the organisations we work with at 1625 Independent People, it goes far beyond fundraising. It’s about shared purpose, real human connection, and creating lasting change for young people facing homelessness.  Through our Stronger Together campaign, we spoke to five of our incredible corporate partners to understand what these partnerships look like in practice, and why they […]

For Neurodiversity Celebration Week, we asked young people connected to 1625 Independent People to share what being neurodivergent means to them.  Neurodiversity recognises that people experience and interact with the world in different ways. For many young people, it can shape how they learn, communicate, manage everyday tasks, and understand themselves.  Through their reflections, young people […]
