Volunteer at Independent People

1625 Independent People supports 16 to 25 year olds who have faced or are facing homelessness in the South West. We house and support young people to build independent lives.

Our aim is to make sure everyone gets something out of your volunteering experience; you, us and the people we support.

Heritage oral history project volunteer (Aged 18+) Approx 3 – 4 hours per week for 6 – 10 weeks

The role: Working in pairs/small groups with our young people, to research, prepare and create a podcast on Kingsley Hall’s heritage.

  • Based in Old Market area and at recording studios around
  • Support young people to create a series of heritage related podcasts.
  • Volunteers work alongside young people to learn and develop key skills
  • Volunteers will be supported by the Heritage Team Volunteer
  • Use 1625 Independent People Archives to research material for

Key skills:

  • Good communication skills
  • Enthusiasm/interest in developing new skills
  • Enthusiastic about working in a small team
  • Interest in exploring heritage and related ideas
  • Ability to work alongside young people.
  • Digital skills welcome but not necessary (training provided).

  • We want to ensure that our workers, volunteers and clients are not placed at risk. As 1625 Independent People meets the requirements of exempted questions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, certain roles may be required to undergo a check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Offences do not necessarily mean that your application will be turned down. We give careful consideration to providing opportunities for ex-offenders.
