The Independent People Ambassadors (IPA)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

IPA is a group of passionate young ambassadors who have a mission to create change. We have all used the\u00a0service, or\u00a0have experience of homelessness and want to make things better for future young people. We help shape and guide the service, working with the teams in 1625ip including the Strategic Leadership Team and the Trustees. We do peer support work with groups of young people. We look at feedback from wider groups of young people\u00a0and\u00a0in addition\u00a0have one-on-one meaningful conversations with our peers\u00a0to\u00a0inspire\u00a0the work we do at IPA.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We meet once a month\u00a0at the IPA Board\u00a0to talk through\u00a0our projects,\u00a0give\u00a0experienced\u00a0feedback on relevant issues,\u00a0co-produce\u00a0action plans to improve services and\u00a0create\u00a0ideas for new ones.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

IPA Priority<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Every 6 \u2013 12 months we discuss and vote on a priority. This will be our focus for\u00a0a period of time, and we design action plans which create momentum for real change. Our IPA priority is\u00a0<\/span>recognised<\/span>\u00a0organisation-wide, and we hope that it is considered in external wider management and strategic decisions. This priority changes to reflect the changing needs of young people and\u00a0<\/span>recognises<\/span>\u00a0that the issues we face are not static.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our\u00a0priority for the last year has been to\u00a0<\/span>reduce isolation and loneliness<\/span><\/b>. This came out of the impact that extended national lockdowns had on the social lives of young people, and we hoped to create\u00a0a\u00a0space\u00a0to mitigate the impact of this\u00a0and a movement to ensure this was\u00a0considered a priority\u00a0for the\u00a0organisation. We designed and set up Project Grapevine for other young people. This is a social space where our young people can connect and take part in free, fun activities, such as ice skating.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

New Priority \u2013 Welcoming People<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Now the new year has come, IPA would like to introduce our new priority of\u00a0<\/span>Welcoming People<\/span><\/b>. In the latest IPA\u00a0meeting\u00a0there was\u00a0a discussion about our motivation for choosing this theme and where it might take us over the course of the next year.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The priority of \u2018Welcoming people\u2019 is important to us w<\/span>e want people to feel safe and comfortable when entering the service, recognising that this transition can bring a heightened sense of anxiety to people who are already having a hard time and may be suffering with poor mental health.\u00a0We hope it will allow a greater sense of trust and belonging so young people can settle into their new home and surroundings. We also know that this will look different for young people from specific backgrounds, and the \u201cwelcome\u201d should be tailored to their needs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In practice, we can see action happening in a social and supportive way, and in a practical, more logistic way. Some ideas we thought of were:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
