D\u00e9couvrez l'histoire sociale dynamique de Kingsley Hall dans ce dernier blog, \u00e9crit par Emma Collins, membre du conseil d'administration de Heritage Youth.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Depuis le 19th<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, Kingsley Hall a \u00e9t\u00e9 une plaque tournante de l'activit\u00e9 syndicale. Un syndicat est une organisation qui repr\u00e9sente les droits - tels que le salaire, les conditions de travail et la stabilit\u00e9 de l'emploi - des membres d'un m\u00e9tier, d'un secteur ou d'une industrie. \u00c0 l'\u00e9poque de l'essor des syndicats \u00e0 Bristol, Kingsley Hall \u00e9tait une plaque tournante pour la communaut\u00e9 d'Old Market. Il a accueilli de nombreuses r\u00e9unions tout au long des ann\u00e9es 19th<\/sup> et 20th<\/sup> si\u00e8cles. Le b\u00e2timent a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le cl\u00e9 dans les marches du 1er mai, au cours desquelles les syndicats ont d\u00e9fil\u00e9 dans le centre-ville de Bristol pour c\u00e9l\u00e9brer leur histoire et la poursuite de leurs activit\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

Ce blog se concentre sur le Dock, Wharf, Riverside and General Labourers Union, car Bristol \u00e9tait l'une de ses branches les plus importantes. Ce syndicat \u00e9tait \u00e9galement connu sous le nom de \"Docker's Union\" (syndicat des dockers), car ses membres travaillaient sur des navires et faisaient du commerce sur les docks. Kingsley Hall a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le cl\u00e9 dans les activit\u00e9s du syndicat \u00e0 Bristol en accueillant la branche 3 du Docker's Union tous les jeudis soirs de 1911 \u00e0 1922.<\/p>\n

Au cours de son s\u00e9jour \u00e0 Kingsley Hall, trois pr\u00e9sidents ont pr\u00e9sid\u00e9 la section 3 du syndicat des dockers. H. Tomkins a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sident de 1911 \u00e0 1912, jusqu'\u00e0 ce que H. Fry prenne la rel\u00e8ve et reste pr\u00e9sident jusqu'en 1915. Un registre m\u00e9ticuleux des proc\u00e8s-verbaux des r\u00e9unions a \u00e9t\u00e9 tenu, montrant comment la section s'est d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e parall\u00e8lement au syndicat dans les ann\u00e9es 1910 en raison de l'augmentation du nombre de membres.<\/p>\n

Finalement, la branche a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 collecter des fonds pour le syndicat plus large de Bristol et a pu soutenir ses membres et leurs familles tout au long de la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale. Apr\u00e8s la guerre, le syndicat a continu\u00e9 \u00e0 collecter des fonds pour aider les soldats de retour au pays \u00e0 trouver du travail dans les docks et pour soutenir les familles en deuil.<\/p>\n

Le Docker's Union a \u00e9t\u00e9 dissous en 1922 apr\u00e8s avoir fusionn\u00e9 avec d'autres syndicats similaires pour former le Transport and General Workers Union.<\/p>\n

Bien que les r\u00e9unions du Docker's Union aient pris fin \u00e0 Kingsley Hall en 1922, la salle est rest\u00e9e un centre d'activit\u00e9s communautaires. Aujourd'hui, 1625 Independent People soutient nos communaut\u00e9s en fournissant des services et une assistance aux jeunes sans-abri et \u00e0 ceux qui risquent de le devenir.<\/p>\n
