Future Builders

A home.  An apprenticeship. A bright future.

Our innovative Future Builders project works in collaboration with the OVO Foundation, local training providers and Bristol City Council to support young people aged 18-24 starting out in careers such as construction and other skill shortage industries.

Over 12-18 months Future Builders prepares young people for independent living and the world of work, with personalised pre-apprenticeship training, work-based learning opportunities, ongoing support around sustaining education, employment and training and help to develop independent living and home making skills. Future Builders get everything they need to build an independent positive life.

How it works
Step one:  Assessment and pre-apprenticeship training
Potential Future Builders will access a pre-apprenticeship courses such as employability skills, functional Maths and English and tenancy training, and sometimes specific preparatory courses such as CSC card training.  At the same time they receive careers guidance and help to secure an apprenticeship or work based learning opportunity.

Step two: Live and Work
Now in apprenticeships or study, the young people gain valuable qualifications and work experience while living in shared houses. The rent is set at an affordable level so that work really pays.  Meanwhile, dedicated support prepares the group for the next stage.

Step Three: Move On
After completing their apprenticeships, the Future Builders are supported to move into sustainable employment and accommodation.
