Future Builders Gardening Volunteer

Be a volunteer! Independent People supports 16 to 25 year olds who have faced or are facing homelessness in the South West. We house and support young people to build independent lives.

All our Volunteers are looked after as part of the VIP scheme.

Our aim is to make sure everyone gets something out of your volunteering experience; you, us and the people we support. Because we think we’re all VIPs.
 

Future Builders Gardening Volunteer

Regular or once a month (we are flexible)

The role:

Future Builders project works in collaboration with the OVO Foundation, local training providers and Bristol City Council to support young people aged 16-24 starting out in work or training who are struggling to find a home.

Over a period of 12 months, Future Builders prepares young people for independent living and the world of work, with personalised training and support to sustain education, employment and training and help to develop independent living and home-making skills. Future Builders get everything they need to build an independent positive life.

We have two Future Builders homes with large gardens that need some love and attention from a creative and enthusiastic volunteer. 

The gardening volunteer will help to improve the living space and wellbeing for the young people living in these homes and will encourage participation of these young people to learn new skills to care for their outside space.

The volunteer will be working alongside the Future Builders team and the young people who live in these two properties in Bristol. 

Key skills:

  • Gardening knowledge
  • Enthusiasm
  • Creative mind/vision
  • Friendly and warm
  • Ability to work with, encourage, and lead a small group of young people
  • Organisational and communication skills
  • Capacity to volunteer at least once a month

  • References for future employment (after six months of volunteering)
