Bristol Youth MAPS Reception Volunteer

Who are we

Independent People supports 16 to 25 year olds who have faced or are facing homelessness in the South West. We house and support young people to build independent lives.
All our Volunteers are looked after as part of the VIP scheme.
Our aim is to make sure everyone gets something out of your volunteering experience; you, us and the people we support.
Because we think we’re all VIPs.

Role Description

We are looking for a Volunteer to help with our reception at our Bristol Youth MAPS (Mediation, Assessment, Prevention and Support) office on Nelson Street, Bristol city centre.
Bristol Youth MAPS supports young people age 16-25 with accommodation issues; sometimes relationships break down or a big life event can mean a young person is asked to move out. This can be scary and difficult to navigate, as well as dangerous. Where possible we help to mediate with young people and their families to see if we can prevent them becoming homeless or enable them to return home. If it is safe, home is usually the best option for a young person until they can move out in a planned way. We also support young people to find accommodation when it’s not safe or possible to return home.
We are looking for a friendly volunteer to help with our front of house team with – meet and greet; completing feedback surveys with service users; signposting information; appointment scheduling and reminders; compiling portfolio of affordable private-rented accommodation to support service users accessing accommodation; assisting service users with phone-calls and online support; and the upkeep of the front of house and meeting rooms.

The volunteer will be working alongside a multi-agency team including staff from 1625ip, Housing Advisors and a Social Worker from Bristol City Council The volunteer will be supported by the Senior Triage and Front of House Worker.
