‘Indykits’ Volunteer

We support young people aged 16 - 25 who are at risk of becoming homeless or are already homeless.  We work across six sites, employ over 100 staff and support up to 500 young people at any given time.
About the role
Indykits are the valuable start-up kits for young people who are moving into a home for the first time. This is an important and exciting time for a young person, however, often they do not have the essential items that they need to live there and cannot afford to buy the items themselves.
Indykits include essential items specific for the young person, such as a cup, plate, cutlery, towel and bedding, so that a young person can feel at home in their accommodation and better adjust to independent living.
The items are donated by individuals and businesses and are stored at our office.
We are looking for a proactive person who can:
•        Work with our Housing and Operations teams to ensure that we have stock of the required items, and ensure that they can provide the items to young people
•        Work with our Partnerships team to coordinate the donations and source the items
•        Keep the items stored tidily and safely
•        Keep stock records and monitor the uptake of the items
Be physically able to go up and down stairs and lift boxes

Whats in it for you?

In addition to knowing you are playing an important part in helping young people in Bristol live happily and independently, this role will have a lot of opportunities for you to develop your administration, retail, communication and organisation skills.
There is scope for you to shape how the processes within this project are managed, and suggest changes, for example in regard to the distribution, storage and management of the Indykits.
In addition, we offer travel expenses, paid lunch, a dedicated supervisor with full induction and regular supervision, references (after 6 months) and training.
When and Where:
You will be based at our Kingsley Hall office:
1625 Independent People, Kingsley Hall, 59 Old Market street, Bristol, BS2 0ER.
There may be occasional travelling with a 1625 staff member to meet donors, or to one of our properties to see the impact of the project.

This is for a day per week, which can be spread over the week. We are very flexible as to which day(s) you work between Monday and Friday (our office hours are 9am – 5pm).
