Meet Dom Wood - Chief Executive

Dom has worked in the field of homelessness since 1989 when he left University and started work in a direct access hostel. Having worked at the hostel in various roles, including management, for seven years he then joined Priority Youth Housing in 1996. He led Priority Youth Housing’s services in Bristol as Housing Manager between 1996 and 2003 and also led on many youth housing initiatives with the city council over this period. In 2003 Dom was appointed as Director of Priority Youth Housing and amongst other achievements got St George's House off the ground after several years of Bristol having no specialist emergency provision for young homeless people.

In 2009 Dom led the merger of Priority Youth Housing and Wayahead Housing and Support for Young People forming 1625 Independent People. As the leader of the major youth housing provider in the area Dom is heavily involved not only in the organisation but in both local authorities at a strategic level in housing, supported housing and children’s services.

Connections

Dom is currently Chair of the Bristol Youth Housing Delivery Group, Chair of the South Gloucestershire Providers Forum on the steering group of the Bristol Supported Housing Forum and has a place on the Bristol prevention and Early Intervention Workstream as well as being a rep. on Homes4Bristol, The Bristol Housing Partnership and the South Gloucestershire Core Strategy Group.

Dom has held various roles outside of work over the years including Board membership of the Avon & Bristol Law Centre and currently is on the Steering Group for Making the Change who have developed a pilot halfway house from Youth Offending Institutes.

Dom has BSC Maths and Psychology Bristol University; Post Graduate Diploma in Housing; Affiliate Membership Chartered Institute of Housing.
