Inside Out Project

About the service

Inside Out was set up in partnership with Fairbridge and Bristol Credit Union. It is funded by Lankelly Chase and Tudor Trust with an outcome to reduce re-offending in the South West of England.

It's a resettlement program offering young offenders aged 16 to 25, a joined up resettlement plan to help with their move on after prison.

We provide a support worker who will visit young people inside the prison before they are released and continue that support once they have been let out (hence the name Inside Out) .

Together, the young person and the support worker draw up and agree a resettlement plan which includes:
  • housing
  • money
  • family contact
  • health and wellbeing
  • training, education and work
  • resettlement
  • advocacy
We find out what interests or skills they have which might lead to possible training or vocational aspirations and we use this as a tool to help reduce the risk of re-offending.

We aim to help them step out in a different direction from the one that bought them prison.

Support workers meet the young people at the prison gate, take them to their accommodation and then go with them or encourage them to visit other agencies and access other support. We have strong partnership agreements with JobCentrePlus, Fairbridge and Bristol Credit Union which means we can help to make sure they get the help they need.

Inside Out support workers aim to have a support program in place on release, to keep people engaged and to help with reducing of re-offending.
