Floating support for young people based in South Gloucestershire

Who we can support

We can only support people aged 16 to 25 who are vulnerable and living in South Gloucestershire or with a local connection to South Gloucestershire.

How we work out who to support first

We look at Applications every week at a Support Services Team Meeting. If we cannot give someone a support worker straight away, we put them on our intake list and keep in touch by phone. We will do whatever we can to help in the mean time.

We try to help the people who need it the most first  - this is worked out by how vulnerable (or at risk) they are.
These are the sort of things we consider when deciding how at risk people are:

  • Previously in care
  • At risk of offending
  • Homeless/at risk of homelessness and aged 16/17
  • Teenage pregnancy/teenage parent
  • A need for support identified by the South Gloucestershire Post 16 Panel or Multi-agency Prevention Panel
  • At risk of drug or alcohol misuse
  • Previously or currently suffering from abuse or harassment, or at risk of abuse or harassment
  • Mental health issues
  • Learning disabilities
  • At risk of losing accommodation if support is not provided
  • Young people who are not eligible for other Floating Support services available in South Gloucestershire.
  • Lacking family/other support

There are also other things we need to consider like:

  • Whether the young person is at risk in their current situation and their ability to cope with the situation.
  • How long the young person has been in need of support.
  • What other support is in place, or could be put in place for the young person.
  • The caseloads of Support Staff

We give more information about who we support and how we decide in our South Glos Guidance for applications(Word,25Kb)
