Merger - A place called home

Tuesday 21 September 2010

At last - the "Merger - a place called home" CD is ready and available to buy!

Just in time for Independent People's first birthday, a music CD called "Merger - A place called home" is ready to hit the streets. Produced by a group of young people we support with help from our staff and studio space and equipment from Orange Street Studios, the CD is a compellation of hard hitting lyrics, hip hop and world music influences. It is essentially an informative production aimed at expressing some of the real life situations and issues young homeless people in Bristol deal with everyday. The money raised from the CD will go towards upkeep and maintenance of the Independent People properties which are a lifeline for young people who find themselves living on the streets of Bristol. When Priority Youth Housing and Wayahead Housing merged last year to form Independent People, Support Worker, Tyrell Jarrett (AKA Bristol rapper- Relly) was suddenly supporting young people from both organisations. It was his idea to bring those young people together to work on a music project and help them to express their feelings by “speaking through the speaker”. Tyrell said: “Merger” started out small, with supporting musical creativity on an individual basis. This then grew into the idea of a collaborative mix tape. Expression through music holds enormous empowerment and influence. It seemed natural to allow the experiences and feelings of young people to be shared. Not everyone likes Hip Hop True. But you probably know some one who does and guess what, Christmas is just round the corner! ;o) Want to buy a CD? Great! We are just sorting out a downloadable version but for now you can buy the CD by popping in to our offices on Old Market or come visit our stand at BrisFest. CDs only cost £6 - but we will happily accept more if you're feeling generous! Tracks from the CD will be performed at this year's Brisfest and we'll have a stall in the Amphitheatre so come and say hello! SUNDAY 26th 11.30am at the Lab Stage Get in touch We'd love to hear from you, if you'd like more information or want to know how you can support Independent People - give us a call!
