On Thursday 24 February our office in Old Market was heaving with young people eagerly waiting to go for a drive. Using funding specifically for activities and engagement we took 38 young people Go-Karting in Avonmouth. Young people helped run the event The choice of activity came through a consultation which was run by a service user and through our Service User Forum. Not only did young people help set up the event - they helped cook lunch for everyone before leaving for the track (well, you can't race on an empty stomach!) and helped with gathering feedback/monitoring forms. It is fun but it's not just a jolly... By helping us run and take part in these events, young people have told us they get a sense of achievement, increased confidence, better social skills, patience and a desire to get involved in future projects. What some young people said about it... “This was good because it got me out of my flat cause I’m bored” “I wanted to take part in the event to meet new people” “I hope to find new friends” “I thought it was good experience, especially as I want to learn to drive” “I want to do these activities so I can say I’ve done them. Adventurous person, so adventure while I’m young would be something good to look back on" More Information Read more Independent People News Find out how you can support us
