Resident Adult - St Andrews

About us

At Independent People we provide housing support and advice to around 450 young people throughout Bristol and South Gloucestershire. Please read our About us pages to find out more about our services and history.

We own and manage around 245 units of accommodation in Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

About the job

One of our properties in St Andrews has five bedsits housing young people who are learning to live independently. We have found that some young people move on to independence faster and with better success if there is a resident adult. This is not a support worker role, the property already has a Housing Support Worker. We need someone to be a positive example of independent living to the young people and also keep regular contact with the residents to make sure the house runs smoothly.

The role includes:

  • Making sure young people understand how to work things in the house e.g. washing machine, locks etc
  • to be available to residents and neighbours in case of emergency and deal with other agencies (utilities / council / emergencies etc) as appropriate.
  • to keep regular contact and develop a good working relationship with the allocated Housing Support Worker (HSW) for the property
  • keep the HSW informed on the residents welfare,
  • assist with the overall management of the property, reporting repairs and helping out with house meetings.
  • As an employee you will need to attend training as required and attend support meetings with your line manager.
This is a unique opportunity to work with young people in an accommodation based project and to gain experience and learn about the housing sector, particularly useful for people wishing to improve their employment opportunities.
